To know the best time to travel to South America depends on where you are planning on going and what you want to do while there. If you are thinking of visiting Patagonia the best time of the year is during the summer (December to March). If you want to visit the Andes the best season is during the dry season (April to October). However, during rainy season it is a completely different experience with lush landscapes and other drastic changes from the dry terrain.
The Galapagos Islands can be visited year round because of their proximity to the Equator. The weather and climate does not have much variation. The Amazon Basin can also be visited year round. Most of the year it is warm and humid the sighting of wild life is possible most of the year.
The Salt Lakes of Uyuni in Bolivia can be visited year round as well as the landscape does not change throughout the year. The only difference is just a layer of water over the salt flats, which is great for photos! Iguazzu falls in Argentina can be visited every day of the year, and Angel Falls is worth a visit from April to December.
